Between pursuing an associate's degree, taking care of horses and looking for land to buy in Union, Missouri, 16-year-old Jenna Koch is going at a full gallop. Koch dreams of having her own barn to train horses and riders, but she considers becoming a veterinarian to be a safer path. "Career-wise, my heart is telling me to do one thing, and my brain is telling me to do another," she said.
Riding her own two horses and grooming others' horses in barns across Franklin County are both steps towards Koch's goals and sources of joy within long days of work and study.

Koch received the horse when she was 11 years old as a gift from her dressage trainer, who thought Koch and the horse got along well. Wild Turkey hospitalized a previous owner by trapping her against the side of a trailer and breaking several of her ribs. Koch said she's never been injured by Wild Turkey because she doesn't act nervous around him and doesn't react when he acts up.

"Most kids at 16 wouldn't be looking for property to buy," Koch said.
